Foundations, A New Dance Piece

"Foundations" has been shown in many works-in-progress venues in the city, and made its NYC debut last Thursday at the LABA Festival for New Jewish Culture. Now it's here at the Bronfman Center!

"WHAT DO YOU STAND ON?"

M.E.L.D. Danceworks, in ongoing efforts to "dissolve religious and cultural barriers through the art of dance," presents a new dance, Foundations, at Bronfman Center, 7 East, 10th Street, NYC, this Tuesday, May 19th at 8pm.

Inspired by the 2008 collapse of Wall Arch in Utah's Arches National Park, Foundations explores the diverse spiritual footings and foundations of an interfaith cast of dancers using movement, text and storytelling.

Due to limited seating capacity, RSVP's are highly recommended.

Email info@melddanceworks.org

Choreography by Marin Elizabeth Leggat, in close collaboration with dancers Erica Whitman Frankel, Andrea Homer Macdonald, Marci Rubin and Julia Sabangan.

Please join us for a light reception following the 30-minute performance.
Donations are gladly accepted!

FEED PARTY!

Project FEED Update: Thanks for helping feed the need...

With money still being counted, the NYU community has currently helped to raise over $7500 towards feeding the hungry in New York City and beyond as part of the Project FEED initiative.

Over 500 NYU students and community members crowded the dance floor at BLVD on April 2nd to mark the success of the week! Adding that total onto a week's work of volunteer opportunities, fundraising across campus, and learning, an estimated 1600+ participated in Project FEED.

Many thanks to all of those who gave their time, money, energy, and excitement to making the initiative a major success.

Still haven't made a donation!? Check out the Project FEED website to learn more and help us increase our donations to the Food Bank for New York, Oxfam America, and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

Rabbi Yehuda Sarna is given "Richard M. Joel Exemplar of Excellence Award" by Hillel International

Each year, a select few Hillel professionals from around the world are given this prestigious award. For his contributions to our community, Rabbi Sarna was recognized this year. Below is an excerpt from the text read during the awards ceremony:

"Hired to work primarily with Orthodox students, Rabbi Sarna?s efforts have led to a phenomenal growth of all Jewish denominations on campus, making The Bronfman Center for Jewish Life at NYU a magnet for Jewish life. Through the use of intellectual and experiential learning, he has inspired students who had never before engaged in Jewish study to discover how Judaism is relevant to their lives. He organized one of the first public rallies raising awareness of genocide in Darfur and traveled with a group of students to the Gulf Coast following hurricanes Katrina and Rita. When tragedy struck at Virginia Tech, Sarna traveled there with students to provide counseling, show solidarity and to offer any help needed."

Please join the community in congratulating and thanking Rabbi Sarna!
