

The American Philosophical Society has elected three New York University faculty as members: Jorge Castañeda, a Distinguished Global Professor of Politics; Ronald Dworkin, the Frank Henry Sommer Professor of Law at NYU's School of Law; and Itamar Rabinovich, a Global Distinguished Professor at NYU's Taub Center for Israel Studies. Others elected this year include former Vice President Albert Gore, Jr., New Yorker Editor David Remnick, and Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.

The Provost is the University’s chief academic officer, who is responsible for setting the University’s academic strategy and priorities, working closely with the deans of the schools, and identifying and cultivating interdisciplinary areas of excellence and collaboration within and between schools.
The Provost’s Office oversees academic appointments, promotions, tenure, and faculty affairs; develops and maintains the academic infrastructure of the library and information technologies at NYU; guides academic planning and research support; and coordinates student programs and campus life.
