NYU’s Maison Française Hosts Special Events in December

La Maison Française of New York University, located at 16 Washington Mews (at University Place), will host several special events in December, including a December 10 centennial concert featuring Olivier Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time, ” presented by the Alliance Players. - Tues., Dec. 2, 7 p.m. Lecture: “Fin de la culture française? Faux-problème, erreur de jugement ou médisance?” by Michel Deguy, poet, philosopher, critic; author of Biefs; Interdictions du séjour. In French.
- Thurs., Dec. 4, 7 p.m. Lecture: “Why Beckett Never Gave Up on English, Despite (His) French” by Robert Harvey, SUNY at Stony Brook; author of De l’exception à la règle.
- Sun., Dec. 7, 3 p.m. and Mon., Dec. 8, 7 p.m. Dramatic reading: Les Justes by Albert Camus. In French, by NYU students. Followed by a Q&A. Conceived and adapted by Daniel Darwin. Music by Christopher Alden. For reservations, call 212.998.8750 or email maison.francaise@nyu.edu.
- Weds., Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m. Centennial concert: Olivier Messiaen’s (1908-1992) “Quartet for the End of Time,” presented by the Alliance Players: Nurit Pacht, violin; Todd Palmer, clarinet; Darrett Adkins, cello; and Priya Mayadas, piano.
