Fire Safety EducationCampus fire safety at NYU is a joint effort, led by several University offices, including the Division of Student Affairs, particularly as it relates to students living in University housing. Each of the buildings in which we house students is fully compliant with existing fire codes for that particular type of building, and all mechanical systems are inspected and tested on a regular basis to ensure that they are in good working order. Of course, fire safety involves much more than mechanical systems. Fire safety education plays a key role in providing NYU students with vital information about fire and other emergency situations. All students who live in a University-supervised residence facility receive specific information, written and verbal, about procedures and equipment in the building in which they live. Every member of the University community has the potential to contribute to fire safety on campus, by preventing fires from starting, and by being prepared to take appropriate action in the event that a fire does occur. This web site provides some basic information and resources to assist students in doing so. |
